POSITIVE: Dept.of Health confirms 1st Novel Coronavirus case in the Philippines

The Department of Health has confirmed first case of novel coronavirus in the country, Thursday, January 30.

According to DOH, a Chinesewoman, 38, arrived in the the country last January 21 from Wuhan, China via Hongkong.

With a mild cough, the patient sought for medical check up in one of the government hospitals on January 25.

“I assure the public that the DOH is on top of this evolving situation. We were able to detect the first confirmed case because of our strong surveillance system, close coordination with the World Health Organization and other national agencies,” DOH Sec. Francisco Duque III said.

Currently, DOH is monitoring 29 patients under investigation for nCoV.

As of this writing, there are 170 people in China have died due to this emerging deadly virus which started in Wuhan, China.

“Stay calm and vigilant at all times… Adopt a healthy lifestyle,” Duque said.

SIDE NOTE: DOH withholds the name and location of the government hospital where the patient is isolated to avoid panic and misinformation in the area.
